about me

Travelling and exploring has always been a big part of my life. I got the first taste of the wandering life at age 4 with family camping trips around my home country of Australia. The travel bug hit around ten years ago on my first overseas adventure as a camp counsellor in Pennsylvania, USA. After 4 months in the US, I went back to study for my RN and once registered, used every little bit of my annual leave to it's full potential with further trips to the US, New Zealand, Thailand, Canada and parts of Europe.

After 6 years of working full time and counting the days down to annual leave religiously, I decided to call it quits to working full time and headed off to Canada on a working holiday visa for 21 months. During that time I was based mainly in British Colombia, but got to exercise that itch for exploration with every opportunity I got. I border hopped a number of times back to the US, and later during my time in North America, finally ticked off a bucketlist destination that had been on my radar since forever in Mexico.

Since arriving back in Australia in April, 2015, I still haven't 'settled' back into the throws of proper full time work. I spent the first 12 months in limbo, with the occasional agency work thrown in with a few adventures to India, Hong Kong, Thailand (again!), Malaysia and Indonesia.

In April of this year, I tried out the world of rural and remote contract nursing. While the work can be rather 'interesting' at times, I have managed to see places in Australia that I didn't even know existed. From gorgeous pine forests, to hidden little country towns. I'm also in the very slow process of obtaining my UK nursing registration and visa, a process that is indeed tedious and very trying, but I'm remaining positive that I'll eventually get all my gear together and will be tapping British veins before you know it.

This month does hold some exciting adventures. In late October I'll be heading off to Mexico yet again, but this time, it'll be a full on exploration of sorts all the way down to Peru where I'll be volunteering in medical clinics in Cusco. I'm also throwing in Spanish and dance classes in Cuba, beach bumming in Costa Rica, and city breaks in random places across central and south America that had once been mentioned in that never ending travel bucketlist stored in my brain.

Feel free to follow along in my journey, especially in the next six months as I fling myself out of the comfort zone once again. As my blog develops, I hope to in the future include details on living the travel life as an RN, as well as some of my favourite hikes and walks around the world. Feel free to throw me an email if you'd like more information on any of the places mentioned in my blog or if you'd like tips on how to work and travel as a nurse (or about the working holiday visa process.)

I'm also open to travel tips myself - so if you see that I'm heading in an area that you know, I'd love to find out where you believe the best cafes, hikes, markets, etc are.

Thanks a bunch
